As you know RSD will now take place across 3 dates: August 29th, September 26th and October 24th. These revised RSD Drops will not be like normal RSD events given the COVID-19 pandemic. Clearly, we need to observe social distancing rules in order to keep our customers and staff as safe as possible.
In order that we can maintain the principle of first come first served, but equally ensure responsible social distances practices, we are going to open the STRAND RECORDS’ shop from 08:30am on Saturday 29th August and operate a socially distanced queue.
This approach will consist of the following key elements;
- Allowing customers to form a socially distanced queue outside of our shop
- Keeping all customers 1m+ apart and serving on a 1st come 1st served basis as normal
- Restricting the number of customers in our shop at any 1 time to an appropriate number
- Asking customers to wear a mask
- We may restrict the number of customers in the queue on the day if the queue begins to get unwieldy.
Please note that this guidance could change on a local or national level in response to COVID-19 and government guidelines.
Hi pop fans, you may recall that there will be three RSD Drops for 2020;
- 29th August 2020 – vinyl listing here
- 26th September 2020 – vinyl listing here
- 24th October 2020 – vinyl listing here
We realise that some of you sent lists of RSD vinyl ‘wants’ earlier in the year but please can you take a look at the ‘new’ listings of releases;
Please let us know what you would ideally like us to stock for each of the RSD Drops.
Apologies for the quick turnaround, but ideally could you let us know by Saturday 11th July 2020 so that we can make sufficient requests to suppliers.
As you probably know, we are not allowed to save RSD items for customers but we will try to stock adequate copies of titles based on the interest we receive. No guarantees sadly but the better idea we have of people’s desires, the more informed our order to suppliers will be. Fingers crossed eh!
Thanks pop fans x
As you may know, the #loverecordstores campaign has been launched to raise awareness of the challenges faced by record stores during the current pandemic, and to encourage music fans to continue shopping online with their favourite stores. The 24 hour event ,including the world’s biggest online instore, takes place on Saturday 20th June.
The event will see dozens of new and re-issued vinyl releases being made available to music fans. The full list of releases and record stores participating is now available to view at loverecordstores.com and stores will make the releases available to buy online from 9:00am on the 20th of June and will be shipping on various dates soon after the event.
In addition to the vinyl sales, the world’s biggest online instore event is also planned with 24-hours of live performances, DJ sets, interviews, readings and more from a wide range of artists and influential music industry figures. Full details of the programme will be made available at loverecordstores.com
Viewing will be free of charge via loverecordstores.com but donations can be made during the performances and all monies raised will go to the #saveourvenues campaign as will profits from the sales of a range of specially commissioned Record Label T-shirts, which will be available through a merch area of http://www.loverecordstores.com. There will also be donation buttons for the Black Lives Matter campaign and the Covid-19 relief fund.
Saturday 18th April 2020 would have been Record Store Day 2020 @RSDUK!
Fo independent record shops like Strand Records, RSDUK has been a great day to highlight the love of vinyl and music generally. It’s also been a good day to sell records too of course. The immense support we have received since being part of RSDUK is evidenced by these photos and the commitment, dedication and endeavour of our army of crate diggers is both appreciated and applauded.
To be honest, we can never quite get over the level of support we receive on RSDUK in our shop on The Strand in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. A queue starts forming around c.04:00am (maybe even earlier?) and the shop is effectively mobbed from opening time until mid-afternoon. For the last couple of years we have had live DJs in the afternoon too. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!
We can’t celebrate in our favourite shops today but we can still support them online. Please get in touch with us if there is anything you require. What gaps need filling in your vinyl collection? Let us know and we’ll track them down!
We generally post items second class but we can also offer 1st class postage and next day delivery options as well as click and collect. There is also free local (Stoke-on-Trent) delivery on orders over £30. If you require any of these options, please just contact us.
Thank you for being you . . .
